New Deer Fences Going in East of Kanab

Posted Friday, May 17th 2013 @ 12pm  by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

Each year, more than one hundred vehicles run into deer, as the animals cross Highway 89, east of Kanab, in southern Utah.

Part of the trouble is, the deer fences -- now in place, there -- were erected in the 195os, and have lots of gaps.

This week the Utah Department of Transportation announced a $2.6-million project to install a new 11-mile section of 8-foot fences.

The deer will be funneled to culverts, to pass under the highway.  And if the project proves successful, UDOT promises to make similar improvements elsewhere in rural Utah.
