Explosion Critically Injures U.S. Magnesium Employee

A SMALL EXPLOSION -- AT THE REMOTE U.S. MAGNESIUM PLANT, NORTHWEST OF TOOELE -- HAS PUT AN EMPLOYEE INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH BURN UNIT, IN CRITICAL CONDITION.

TOOELE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR BUCKY WHITEHOUSE SAYS, HIS AGENCY RESPONDED ABOUT 7:30 WEDNESDAY NIGHT, AFTER THE VICTIM -- BELIEVED TO BE IN HIS 4O'S -- SUFFERED HEAD AND CHEST BURNS.

RESPONDERS SAY THE MAN ALSO SUFFERED LUNG INJURIES, AFTER INHALING EXTREMELY HOT AIR.

THE CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED.
